One of the most delightful excursions one can enjoy between Fillmore
and Santa Paula is the Fillmore and Western Railway. Visitors board an
antique train, and travel through the Valley, surrounded by beautiful
mountain views and citrus groves, to the City of Santa Paula. Along the
way visitors may be entertained by strolling musicians. Short line trains,
including the Fillmore and Western, have been used in numerous films and
productions like "City Slickers" and "Of Mice and
Men". The 1992 film "Chaplin" was filmed in the Heritage
Valley because of its historical representation of early California. Those
interested in the journey along the railway must purchase tickets and
board the train in Fillmore.
Fillmore History can be found
here.
Downtown Fillmore’s business district is a 6 block area depicting the
architecture of the 30s and 40s. Fillmore has recently built a Neo
Classical City Hall that sits behind the Central Park Plaza. From the
park, visitors can easily walk along the railroad promenade to shops,
museums, and the Giessinger Winery.
